A Brief History of The Eye Isntitute
Founded by Dr Ronald Mhizha in 1998, The Eye Institute has been modeled along his aspiration and dedication to promoting affordable and comprehensive eye care to all Zimbabweans. The organization, which has now grown from a sole proprietorship to a registered company wholly owned by Latitude South Holdings Private Limited, prides itself as a fully integrated ophthalmic service provider. The Eye Institute has 10 established branches combining both ophthalmological and optometry service that are spread across most Zimbabwean major urban areas. To attain mass inclusivity positioning in the Zimbabwean ophthalmic market, our first two eye specialist branches were opened in 1998 at Machipisa shopping centre & Kopje Plaza in the Harare CBD. The Kopje Plaza relocated is 2001 to the company’s current main Milton park branch and head office. The Eyepod optometry shops were launched in 2011 and established branches at Joina City Mall, Milton Park and Mutare Eyepod was opened in 2012. The Eye Attic at Arundel Village in Harare and Midlands Eye Clinic in Gweru were acquired in 2013 and 2014 respectively.
In 2018, marking The Eye Institute’s 20th anniversary, Bulawayo and Victoria Falls Eyepods were launched together with a satellite branch in Hwange mining town.
